Austria Where To Go
The City
Most of what you'll want to see in Graz is concentrated on the east side of the River Mur, where the Hauptplatz and the neighbouring streets of Herrengasse, Sporgasse and Sackstrasse provide the core of a busy downtown area. Immediately above hangs the Schlossberg, site of Graz's medieval fortress, while the Stadtpark, to the east, provides the town with an attractive promenading ground. The main public transport hubs are on the east bank of the river, too: the Hauptplatz itself, as key crossroads for various tramlines; and Jakominiplatz, 500m southeast, where tramlines and local bus routes converge. There's little to see on the west bank of the river, save for a couple of Baroque churches and the princely residence of Schloss Eggenberg, some 4km from the centre.
