Arrival, information and transport
Graz's train station is on the western edge of town, a fifteen-minute walk or short tram ride (#1, 3, 6 or 7) from the central Hauptplatz. Buses arrive either at the train station or at the bus station at Andreas-Hofer-Platz, a couple of blocks west of the Hauptplatz. Graz airport, 9km south of the centre, is served by the regular #631 and #630 buses that leave from the railway station between 6am and 6pm (€1.60). Hourly trains also run into the centre (€1.45). A taxi doing the same trip will cost about €15.
There's a tourist office on platform one of the train station (Mon– Fri 9am–6pm, Sat 9am–3pm), and a bigger one a couple of hundred metres southeast of the Hauptplatz at Herrengasse 16 (Mon– Fri 9am–6pm, Sat 9am–3pm, Sun 10am–3pm; tel:0316/80750, www.graztourismus.at), either of which can provide free town plans and a wealth of brochures and advice.
Graz is served by an integrated network of local buses and trams. A single ticket costs €1.60 and is valid for one hour, including any number of changes. A 24-hour ticket costs €3.40, and a seven-day ticket, €8.90. The seven-day tickets are available from Tabak shops, the tourist offices, or from ticket machines at the main tram stops, the others can be bought on the bus or tram.
