Frequently Asked Questions
What's the Reunification Express like?Basic, four bunks in a berth. Soft, well-lit carriages. Not bad really! We spend one overnight journey (about 12-16 hours) on the train.
Will I get free time to do my own thing? There is lots of free time on this trip for independent exploration or joining optional activities.
Do I need to bring a mosquito net?No. Mosquito nets are provided in the one place you really need them - the Mekong Delta. Generally you will find there is often nowhere to hang them in the hotels. However, insect repellent is essential and it's a good idea to spray your room with fly spray at bedtime if you're concerned.
Do I need to take malaria tablets? What about Bird Flu?A course of anti-malaria tablets is recommended. As always, consult your doctor and avoid getting bitten where possible. Wear loose light-coloured clothing and use mosquito repellents containing the compound DEET on exposed areas of skin and on clothing. There are no chicken or duck dishes available on any menus throughout the trip. We avoid large markets where there are concentrations of live chicken / ducks for sale.
Can I drink the water? We recommend drinking bottled water. It is available in nearly all shops and not a problem to buy.
What is the food like?Fantastic! If you love seafood it will be a culinary delight. Plenty of opportunities to try authentic Vietnamese dishes and also suitable for vegetarians.
