Tour Overview
Jerash & DanaNear Amman you'll savour the magical atmosphere of Roman Jerash and marvel at the diverse landscapes of Jordan from the summit of Mt. Nebo. Continuing south, you head into Dana Nature Reserve. Here a system of wadis and mountains extends from high plateau to desert lowland - one of the best natural treasures in Jordan
Natural & Ancient WondersYou approach the ancient Nabatean city of Petra via a narrow siq (gorge), at the end of which the impressive buildings hewn out of solid pink rock are revealed. You have a full day to explore Petra before taking to 4WD vehicles and heading deep into the wild desert and towering cliffs of Wadi Rum. You spend the night under the stars in a Bedouin-style tent before travelling to the Dead Sea - the lowest point on earth - to float in its saline waters.
Dana Nature ReserveOur overnight stay here is the hidden gem of your Jordan adventure. The reserve contains a remarkable diversity of landscapes from wooded highlands to rocky slopes and sandy dunes. Frequently Asked Questions
How long are the journeys?Could be up to 4 hours driving on some days. Journeys are broken by visiting Bedouin camps and learning about Jordan's interesting history. It is a small country and therefore distances are never great.
Do I need to take malaria tablets?Although Malaria does exist in parts of Jordan it is not normally found in the areas visited on this trip. Bring insect repellent, containing Deet, or a natural one such as MosiGuard to reduce the number of insect bites. Consult a doctor or travel clinic 6-8 weeks before departing to get the most up to date information.
How long do we spend in Petra? Two nights and one full day. You will spend a full day in Petra and you have the opportunity for a second visit at a small cost.
How much walking is there on this trip? The visit to Dana National Park includes a nature walk lasting approximately two hours however this is NOT a walking trip and there are no treks or trails as such. Travellers do generally spend some time walking around the sites at Petra and Wadi Rum and for this you will need comfortable, sturdy shoes or boots.
Do I need to bring a sleeping bag?Mattresses, blankets and sheets are provided in Wadi Rum. However desert temperatures can fall to almost freezing point at night, even in the summer, and you may wish to consider bringing thermal clothing or a sleeping bag for your overnight stay. Sleeping bags are available for hire locally in Jordan at a cost of USD 17 (approx. £10) per person. This is payable in dollars cash to your local group leader upon arrival in Jordan. If you wish to bring your own sleeping bag, we would recommend a 2/3 season bag for May-Sep departures and a 3/4 season bag for departures Oct-Apr.
