An exciting activity holiday, based in an attractive wooden hotel in one of Finland's most picturesque regionsIn the remote east of Finland, close to the Russian border, and surrounded by frozen lakes and vast forests, is the lovely Kalevala Hotel. Here our programme includes a variety of winter activities, from ice-fishing to snowmobiling and cross-country skiing to a full day driving dogsleds with friendly and lively huskies. We leave two days free for optional trips or further participation in whatever you have enjoyed the most. All the excursions (apart from dogsledding) begin directly from our hotel. The very comfortable Kalevala Hotel is a highlight of the trip, as there are excellent facilities including saunas, a wellbeing department and welcoming lobby area.
Day 1Start Kuhmo.
Day 2Snowmobile safari and ice-fishing; lunch included.
Day 3A morning of cross-country skiing instruction; keep equipment to continue touring unguided in afternoon.
Day 4A free day to choose your own activities or relax and use hotel sauna and spa facilities.
Day 5Self-drive dogsledding safari sharing one sled between two, taking turns to drive.
Day 6Three hour snowshoe trek with lunch by a campfire.
Day 7Free day with optional activities available through the hotel.

AccommodationHotel Kalevala\r\n*** hotel\r\nLocated on the shores of Lake Lammasjarvi, this characterful wooden building has 44 twin-bedded rooms, all with en suite bathrooms. Suites are available for a supplement. The excellent restaurant overlooks the lake, and serves 4-course dinners with plenty of local produce including fish and wild berries. Other facilities include two saunas, a peat sauna and wellbeing department with jacuzzi, and massage services.
