Combine our ‘Northern Quest’ and ‘Northern Trails’ trips for the journey of a lifetime, from the southernmost city on the continent, Cape Town, to the heart of East Africa.

Day by Day Itinerary

Day 1, CAPE TOWN
Arrive in Cape Town.

Day 2, CITRUSDAL
Drive to Citrusdal, where we can take short hikes or swim in the hot springs. (BL)

Day 3, GARIEP RIVER (formerly Orange River)
Drive to Gariep River where the rest of the day is free. (BLD)

Day 4, FISH RIVER CANYON
Crossing the border into Namibia we head for the awesome Fish River Canyon. There will be ample time to take in a beautiful sunset over the canyon or to relax by the pool. (BL)

Days 5 & 6, NAMIB NAUKLUFT NATIONAL PARK
The Namib Naukluft National Park and the giant sand dunes of Sossusvlei offer over 130 million years of natural wonder. We have the chance to climb the dunes and have plenty of opportunity to explore the area, including the nearby Sesriem Canyon. (BLD)

Days 7-8, SWAKOPMUND
We spend two nights in Swakopmund, a delightful Bavarian-style town situated snugly between sea and desert. (Day 7 - BL, Day 8 - B)

Days 9 & 10, ETOSHA NATIONAL PARK
Journey through a granite moonscape to Etosha National Park where we camp, ready for our big game safari experience. Dominated by shimmering white saltpans, the park offers the chance to see elephant as well as black rhino, lion and leopard. (Day 9 - BLD, Day 10 - BL)

Day 11, WATERBERG PLATEAU NATIONAL PARK
The Waterberg Plateau National Park is historically significant because it was the site of the war between the Germans and the Hereros. The area has now become a haven for many endangered species and is renowned for its incredible rock formations and walks. (BLD)

Day 12, GOBABIS
Travel towards the border with Botswana. We stay near Gobabis on a private game farm, dedicated to to the protection of big cats. (BL)

Day 13, MAUN
Cross into Botswana and head for Maun, the gateway to the fantastic Okavango Delta. (BL)

Days 14 & 15, OKAVANGO DELTA - MOKORO SAFARI
Transfer into the delta where we meet our mokoro and polers. The delta is an incredible maze of inland waterways and lagoons and is a haven for wildlife and birds. We have the opportunity to go on game walks by our guides to experience the full splendour of the delta. (BLD)

Day 16, NATA
After breakfast we return to our vehicle by mokoro and transfer to our campsite at Nata. The birdlife in this area is particularly spectacular, and depending on the season we may have the opportunity to take an excursion to see the enormous flocks of flamingoes on the Magkadikgadi Pans. (BLD)

Day 17, CHOBE NATIONAL PARK
Depart Maun for Kasane. Our camp tonight is on the banks of the Chobe River and we arrive in time for a game viewing cruise. (BL)

Days 18-20, VICTORIA FALLS
A short drive from Chobe takes us to the spectacular Victoria Falls, one of the seven natural wonders of the world. You are free to explore at your leisure. Our camp is close to all the bars, restaurants and hot spots for that last big splurge. (Day 18 - BLD, Day 19 & 20 - B)

Day 21, LUSAKA
We depart early for the capital Lusaka and camp on the outskirts of the city in a privately owned rest camp. (BLD)

Day 22, BUSH CAMP
We proceed through pristine African bush to our bush camp in a rural village, a fantastic way to catch a glimpse into rural African life. We choose our stops very carefully in conjunction with the chiefs of each village. (BLD)

Days 23-24, SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK
Heading north we visit the impressive South Luangwa National Park, notably one of Africa's best-kept secrets. We make two game drives into the park, one of them in the evening and we will make use of a spotlight to track down nocturnal species such as leopard and spotted genet. (Day 4 - BL, Day 5 - BLD)

Day 25, LAKE MALAWI - SENGA BAY
Cross the border into Malawi, known as the warm heart of Africa. You will have a chance to interact with these wonderful rural people when we visit the lakeshore fishing villages. We travel up the lake stopping at carefully selected camps. There will be time at Senga Bay to relax and explore, and try the many optional lake activities. (BLD)

Days 26-27, LAKE MALAWI – CHINTECHE
Our journey continues up the lake to beautiful Chinteche, where we camp close to the shoreline and have time to visit local villages as well as try out some of the optional activities available. (Day 7 - BLD, Day 8 - BL)

Day 28, LAKE MALAWI – CHIWETA
We travel through the town of Mzuzu to a rustic camp on the lake-shore set amongst Baobab trees. (BLD)

Day 29, KIZOLONZA
We cross into Tanzania to our camp near Iringa, situated on a local farm. (BLD)

Day 30, DAR ES SALAAM
We proceed to the lively city of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania’s largest city and full of Arab and Asian influences. We camp tonight on the beach and prepare for our trip to fabulous Zanzibar. (BL)

Days 31-33, ZANZIBAR
Early morning departure to catch the ferry to Zanzibar. This Indian Ocean island is a cultural melting pot of African, Arabic and Indian cultures, and is renowned for its spices. We stay in the north of the island, with turquoise waters and palm fringed beaches, and have two full days to explore. (B)

Day 34, DAR ES SALAAM
We return to Dar es Salaam and our beach camp. (BD)

Day 35, ARUSHA
Arusha is a fairly developed town known as the safari capital of Tanzania. Upon arrival at our camp in Arusha we start preparations for our safari. (BLD)

Days 36-38, SERENGETI NP AND NGORONGORO CRATER
Starting early we head for the Serengeti National Park, with game viewing en route. The following morning we do an early morning game drive in the Serengeti and after lunch head for the Ngorongoro Crater NP, the largest unbroken caldera in the world. It plays host to up to 25,000 larger mammals and 100 species of bird. The next day we will do a tour of the crater and then return to Arusha. (Days 17 & 18 - BLD, Day 19 - BL)

Day 39, NAIROBI
We cross the border into Kenya and head straight to Nairobi. (BL)

Day 40, NAIROBI - Tour ends. (B)
