Tour Overview
The coastal town of Sousse has a fortified medina filled with narrow, winding streets and souks selling all manner of trinkets and spices. At El Djem you'll visit the third largest amphitheatre in the Roman world - it's strikingly complete. Walk in the footsteps of the gladiators through tunnels under the arena and sense the atmosphere and clash of weapons. Using the trading town of Tozeur as a base you'll head up into the mountains to explore palm-filled oases.
Camels & Caves
The scenery becomes surreal as you head towards the Sahara across the vast Chott el Djerid salt flats. Mounting camels you'll ride out to spend a night under the desert stars and watch the dunes change colour with the dawn. Moving on to Matmata you'll stay overnight in a troglodyte dwelling near to the one that doubled for the Skywalker home in Star Wars - sleeping in a cave is an extraordinary experience! Your final stop is Djerba, the 'Isle of the Lotus Eaters', where you'll be able to relax on the beach.
Responsible Travel
We employ a local Group Leader, stay in locally-owned hotels, and travel in a small group - all of which benefits local people by providing valuable employment and distributing evenly the money we spend, while not overburdening them with visitors. Our visits to various regions give us a historical and ecological perspective of the country.
