Half-day walking tour of Antigua. The tour is flexible, you may choose the points of interest you wish to visit, otherwise the general tour takes in the main square, palace, Cathedral, La Merced Church, Capuchinas Convento, St Clara & San Francsico Church. Transfer to Lake Atitlan (3hrs.) Upon arrival, check into your hotel and have lunch (on own) before enjoying a scenic boat ride across Lake Atitlan to the village of Santiago. On the journey you will be able to enjoy wonderful views of volcanoes Toliman, Atitlan & San Pedro. Your guide will then show you around this village where you can visit the Maya God Maximon and hopefully see a ritual performed by local shaman and learn of the spiritualism and beliefs of the T’zutujil Maya as well as their local costume & traditions. Day 04: Lake Atitlan - Chichicastenango - Guatemala City
Morning transfer (1hr) to the famous market at Chichicastenango where you will enjoy a guided visit. Full of arts and crafts this market is great for displaying the array of local crafts available in Guatemala as well as for personal shopping. You can also see Maya rituals being performed in the Catholic Church and - if you have the energy to hike there - in the cemetery or at Pascual Abaj ritual site. Transfer (6hrs) across Guatemala from the highlands down to the central arid desert areas and up through the beautiful rolling hills towards the border with Honduras. Just across the border you arrive in the pretty colonial village of Copan Ruinas. After checking into the hotel and lunch (on own) your guide will meet you at your hotel and transfer you to the Maya Site of Copan. Enjoy a private guided tour of Copan Ruins site with its famous hieroglyphic staircase, ball court and tunnels. Hacienda San Lucas (B)Day 06: Copan Ruins - Livingston, Guatemala
Morning drive (6hrs) across Guatemala through the arid dry central desert region to the lush tropical rainforest area surrounding Rio Dulce and the Caribbean coastline. Visit the beautiful, small Mayan Temple site at Quirigua en route, containing some of the most beautifully preserved carvings and stelea in the Maya world. Once in Rio Dulce you will transfer by boat (1hr) along the Rio Dulce to your hotel. The Villa Caribe is located in the Garifuna town of Livingston on the Caribbean cost. Spend the morning cruising on the Rio Dulce River from your hotel through the central canyon and back to Rio Dulce. On your way back you might per chance see the elusive Manatee. An early morning start this morning to explore the amazing Mayan Temple site at Tikal where huge Mayan temples rise above the jungle canopy and monkeys and tropical birds are abundant in the surrounding rainforest. UNESCO World Heritage site, Tikal National Park. In the heart of the jungle, surrounded by lush vegetation, lies one of the major sites of Mayan civilization, inhabited from the 6th century B.C. to the 10th century A.D. The ceremonial center contains superb temples and palaces, and public squares accessed by means of ramps. Remains of dwellings are scattered throughout the surrounding countryside.
