Tour Overview
Borneo is home to some of the most diverse and beautiful wildlife in the whole of South East Asia. Starting with a visit to majestic Mt Kinabalu, we then continue to Turtle Island. One of the trip highlights is the pristine Danum Valley - a nature lover's paradise, but not to be outdone by Sarawak and the world heritage Mulu National Park with its immense cave system and and the oldest rainforest in the world. We come face to face with Orang-utans at Semenggok and Sepilok sanctuaries, stay with a local village in the Kinabatanagan River region, and overnight in an Iban longhouse in Brunei.
Day by Day Itinerary
Day 1Start Kota Kinabalu.
Day 2
Full day exploring Mt Kinabalu N.P. and Sabah tea plantation.
Day 3
Sunrise walk to view Mt Kinabalu. Transfer to Sandakan.
Day 4
Boat ride to spectacular Turtle Island, where we hope to see turtles nesting.
Day 5
To Sepilok mangrove and forest reserve, afternoon forest walk to resthouse.
Day 6
Visit Sepilok Orang-Utan Sanctuary; travel on Kinabatangan River to Batu Puti village. Visit MESCOT project working to preserve local environment; overnight in eco-lodge.
Day 7
Excursions into forest where we hope to see elephants, orang-utans and endemic bird life.
Day 8
To Danum Valley Conservation Area, a vast area of protected lowland forest.
Day 9-10
Two full days with expert local guides exploring this reserve, home to gibbons, orang-utans, elephants and hundreds of different bird species.
Day 11
Fly to Kota Kinabalu.
Day 12
To Brunei by ferry. Afternoon city tour including the most famous water settlement in Southeast Asia.
Day 13
Journey to Iban longhouse. Afternoon river wildlife cruise and forest walk to pick food for tonight's dinner; overnight in longhouse.
Day 14
Free morning. Afternoon depart to Miri.
Day 15
Fly to Mulu N.P. sunset walk to Deer Cave for spectacular bat exodus.
Day 16
Full day exploring the park.
Day 17
Day to relax or enjoy optional activities.
Day 18
Fly via Miri to Kuching, capital of Sarawak.
Day 19
Morning visit Semenggoh Orang-Utan Centre; free afternoon.
Day 20
End Kuching.
