    Passports
    Passport valid for at least six months required by all nationals of countries referred to in the chart above except for the following:
    1. nationals of Belgium, Germany, Greece, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal and Spain who are holders of national identity cards.

    Visas
    Not required by nationals of countries referred to in the chart above except the following:
    2. nationals of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania who do require a visa, unless transit passengers continuing their journey by the same or first connecting aircraft, provided holding valid onward or return documentation and not leaving the airport.

    Nationals of the following countries are exempted from visa for stays of up to three months: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, Portugal, Sweden and the UK.
    Nationals of the following countries are exempted from visa for stays not exceeding one month: Canada, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Slovak Republic, Slovenia and the USA.

    Note: Nationals not referred to in the chart are advised to contact the French consulate general for visa requirements (see General Info for France).

    Types of Visa and Cost
    All visas, regardless of duration of stay and number of entries permitted, cost €35. In most circumstances, no fee applies to students, recipients of government fellowships and citizens of the EU and their family members.

    Validity
    Short-stay (up to 30 days): valid for two months (single- and multiple-entry). Short stay (31 to 90 days and double- or multiple-entry): valid for a maximum of six months from date of issue. Transit: valid for single- or multiple-entries of maximum five days per entry, including the day of arrival.

    Applications to:
    French consulate general (for personal visas), or consular section at embassy (for diplomatic or service visas); see General Info for France. All applications must be made in person.

    Working Days Required
    One day to three weeks, depending on nationality.

    Warning
    Most visits to New Caledonia are trouble-free but you should be aware of the global risk of indiscriminate international terrorist attacks, which could be against civilian targets, including places frequented by foreigners.

    Tropical cyclones may occur in New Caledonia between mid-December and mid-March.

    Health Care
    New Caledonia offers a wide range of efficient medical services in both public and private hospitals, and an adequate selection of chemists. Hotels can generally recommend an English-speaking doctor or dentist. Health insurance is advised.

    1
    A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travelers over one year of age arriving from infected areas.

    Travelers arriving from infected areas do not require cholera vaccination and will not be given chemoprophylaxis. They are required, however, to fill out a form for use by the Health Service.

    Typhoid is reported. Visitors may wish to ensure up-to-date polio vaccinations have been administered prior to travel.
